Journalling reads: Despite all of our fears and doubts, they were quickly able to reassure us that you were exactly where you were supposed to be, complete with a tiny little heartbeat. It was very reassuring to know that at least for now you were perfectly ok. They adjusted the dates but since when has that ever been anything new for us. Your new due date is the 27th August but I very much doubt that will end up being your birthday.

Journalling reads: When Ella wanted to go and see the Cbeebies Live show at the New Thatre, Auntie Lisa and Uncle Gary thought that you might like to go as well. They bought your ticket and they wouldn’t even accept the money from mummy for it. When the day finally came for the performance you were so excited. You waited anxiously by the front door while the rain poured down outside. You were so impatient and couldn’t wait to get going. You were so thrilled when Uncle Gary and Ella finally came to pick you up. This was the first time you had ever been on a trip like this without me. You went by car into the city centre and then you had to walk from the car park to the theatre. You were worried that you were going to get wet. But when you got out of the car the rain completely stopped so you were able to stay nice and dry. You and Ella had a lovely time, before you left you bought a souvenir Cbeebies program and couldn’t wait to show it to me. You are so lucky that you have a cousin so close in age to you to do fun things like this with. 13th April 2008.

Journalling reads: I really hate this photo. Every time I look at it, I am reminded how lucky you were when that idiotic driver hit you with his car. I was pregnant with Logan when you called me and said “I don’t want you to worry but I have had an accident”. As soon as you said it I started feeling sick. I only felt sicker when I saw that the seat post was snapped almost in half and your crash helmet was smashed into little pieces. Yet somehow you managed to walk away with nothing more than a few scrapes and bruises!

Journaling reads: We may have only spent one night actually sleeping in the tent, but Lukas begged for it to stay up for a while. We agreed that it could stay up until it rained next. Lukas spent almost every daylight hour in it, he dragged teddies in there for picnics, took his portable dvd in there to watch films, he pretended it was everything from a cave, to a castle, a playhouse to a hospital.. He was in and out of it all day long, always dragging me in to show me what he was playing and imagining in his private little hidey hole. Who would have thought that something so simple would make him so content. When the rain came and the tent finally came down, he had the mother of all tantrums, lots of screaming and crying and begging for it to stay up. It broke my heart to take it away from him, but it would have ended up wrecked in the rain.

Journalling Reads: As a parent I am definately not afraid to venture into the world of the exciting or very unusual to amuse Lukas and keep him happy. But even I have to admit that this was my craziest idea to entertain him so far. We decided to go camping – in a tent in the back garden. I hate dirt, I hate bugs and I really hate sleeping on the floor. so This was about as close to “roughing it” as I was willing to go, we could go back inside to use the bathroom and even had electricity from the shed. We blew up an airbed and dragged our duvet down from the bedroom. Then we all spent a very hot and very uncomfortable night watching dvd’s on the laptop and trying to sleep in the tent. Daddy retreated back indoors before the morning because it was so hot, but Lukas had an absolute blast, he talked about it for weeks afterwards and told everyone how much fun that he had. I hope when he’s all grown up and has some children of his own, he will come up with some crazy ideas of his own!

Journalling reads: I’m not really sure why, you always prefer to play with my kitchen equipment instead of your own toys. No matter what it is I buy you it’s discarded in a few minutes if you bother to look at it at all. But show you my colander and you will sit for ages, sometimes an hour or longer, picking it up, putting stuff in it, trying to push things through the holes and of course your most favourite use of all, wearing it on your head like it’s a little hat!

Journalling reads: When it comes to your birthday we have never really had much luck. Every year something goes wrong and the day never turns out as we planned, but usually we make the best of it, and you usually end up having 2 birthday cakes (at least) as a kind of compensation. But this year was the worst so far we planned a birthday party but changed our minds because I was feeling too ill to cope with other people’s kids. We planned a meal at Fire and Stone but then you changed your mind. We looked at going to see Toy Story 3 as a family and then having a meal at Oxy or ordering dominos pizza. At the end of the day none of our plans meant anything because on your birthday, we ended up being homeless, having no money and sleeping on Grampy’s floor. We planned to go swimming but we ended up missing the swimming session because everything took longer then it should have done and our last ditch plan to go to the park was ruined when it rained. We did end up going to the small park by Grampy’s house and we did light the candles on your cake, but there was nothing else that made it seem like a birthday. You had already had your birthday presents from us and Nana, and the only other person you usually get a gift from is Lisa. It broke my heart a little more when you said it was the worst birthday ever. I am so sorry Lukas, I really did try and make your day special but I failed miserably at it. I promise you as soon as we are settled in the new house, I will make it up to you. Maybe we can have a half birthday celebration as a second chance to make it amazing. I only hope that we have officially used up our bad luck quota and next year you will finally get the perfect birthday Lukas!

Journalling reads: When Lukas saw this zip line in the park, he begged us to take him so he could have a try. We had somewhere to be that day, but we did promise to bring him back another day. Since the weather was nice and Mark was off work we decided today would be a great day to try it out. We caught the bus to the park and played for a while on the other park equipment. When the zip line was free we walked Lukas over for his turn. It was then that he decided he wanted nothing to do with the zip line. He said it was “too fast, too high and too scary”. Daddy couldn’t wait to have a go and try it out, and even though we tried our hardest we couldn’t convince Lukas that it was fun. Logan however has no fear and he couldn’t wait to try it out. He got a go with Daddy first and even though he nearly slipped off daddy’s lap, he couldn’t wait to go a second time with mummy. Mummy held him a little differently but he loved both of his trips on the zip line. We haven’t found anything yet that scares him, he’s willing to try anything once and then again to see if he likes it. It’s a little scary really we can already tell that he is going to be an up for anything daredevil!

Journalling reads: All of my pregnancies have been difficult, but the worst by far was my pregnancy with Leo. We were at the hospital at least every other day, there were blood tests, urine tests, ultrasounds, Fetal monitoring and lots of sitting around for hours. It was so tiring that by the time we got back to Mark’s parents house I was always ready to just crash. Some nights I didn’t even manage to eat dinner before I fell asleep. I spent a lot of evenings falling asleep on the sofa, sometimes Lukas even slept with me. Looking back I don’t know how we managed to get through it, especially with a two year old to take care of as well. I guess we were incredibly lucky that he was so well behaved. At the time I still another 3 months until my due date. I had no idea of how I was going to cope. This photo ended up being taken 4 days before Leo was born, 12 weeks early and ironically I ended up wishing that I was only this tired again. Even though the pregnancy had been hard it was really nothing compared to what came next!
